Baptism is a sacrament in the United Church of Canada, along with Holy Communion.

Baptism is a sacrament in the United Church of Canada, along with Holy Communion. It is a symbolic action that signifies the new life God gives us as we join the church community. In our church, baptisms are usually performed as a part of Sunday worship. Water, the element used in baptism, nourishes and cleanses as we pour it onto the head of the person being baptized. Through baptism, a person is welcomed into the Christian faith and develops a relationship with a Faith Community. Baptism can hold tremendous significance for the parent as well. If you are new to Lakefield United Church, we hope that you will find this to be a time filled with potential for you to discover a relationship with our community.

The United Church offers baptism to all ages. In choosing to baptize an infant, parents and sponsors are recognizing that God loves the child and is at work in the child's life. They and their Church family also make a covenant to support the child as they grow in their faith.

How does Lakefield Untied Church celebrate baptism?
We baptize children and adults. Since infant children cannot understand what is being done, their parents and the church act on their behalf. We adults commit ourselves to love all our children, and teach them about God and living with Jesus as our best friend and guide.

Adult baptism
Today there are many adults who were not baptized as children. If you desire to make the commitment of baptism into Christ’s community, you are encouraged to speak to our minister.

When do baptisms take place?
We celebrate baptism during regular worship services, several times per year. Contact the church office for available dates in the coming months.

Lakefield United Church

Preparation for baptism
We gather together those parents who are requesting baptism into one Preparation for Baptism session prior to the actual date. You will find it both meaningful and fun.
